I’m an unusual artist because I don’t really sketch with pens or paint brushes anymore. I use the computer to experiment and mess around with ideas.

It started when I worked full-time in graphic design — I guess I just stopped using pencils then, so it felt natural to approach my art the same way.

But during my fine art degree, this wasn’t exactly welcomed. They wanted tradition: sketchbooks, paint, “the proper tools.” It always felt like the process mattered more than the idea.

I’ve noticed this in life too. People get obsessed with process. It can become a way to control things — or worse, a way to show off if you happen to be good at one particular method.

But isn’t it the ideas — especially the new ones — that really matter?

Because if the focus shifts from procress to control… if keeping things safe and predictable becomes the goal… isn’t that just another kind of cage?

Art, creativity, humanity — none of it moves forward if we stay locked inside the rules
